How to edit JVC TOD with iMovie or FCE on MacThis is a featured page

JVC Camcorder is one of the most popular high definition camcorder in the world. After recording, you will get more TOD videos. These TOD files have higher quality than MOD files.

Standard definition video is stored in MPEG program stream container files with MOD extension; in most other systems these files have extension MPG or MPEG. High definition video is stored in MPEG transport stream container files with TOD extension; in most other systems these files have M2T extension. ransport stream files can be converted into program stream files without recompressing the video itself.

However when you get some HD TOD files, some problem will be boring you as below.

Q1: Importing video from JVC Everio to iMovie
Hi - I have done several searches for how to import my .tod files from the hard drive of my JVC Everio GZ-HD3U (I haven't seen anyone with this exact model on the boards). I realize many people have this problem, but none of the solutions posted seemed to have worked for me. I tried converting with a trial conversion software, but that stretched the image.
Not sure if someone (Chris @JVC?) can help.
iPhoto pops up when I connect the camcorder to the iMac, but iMovie doesn't even recognize that there is a camera connected to the computer.
Do I need extra software to make this work?
Thanks in advance!!

Q2: import video from JVC GY-HM100U to iMovie
searched the internet and couldn't find any answers to this, so I called and got the info and thought I might as well put it here for other interested users.
This JVC pro camcorder records in native quicktime, BUT it uses a prof codec that is distributed with final cut pro. So the answer to the problem is getting that codec. Anyway, I post the exact email answer I got from a very helpful fellow named Ron below.

For resolving these problems, I search a tool--- TOD video Converter for Mac in the website. Mac TOD Converter can help you convert JVC Everio TOD to FCE, iMovie acceptable MOV, MP4, DV formats. Then you can import TOD files to FCE or edit TOD with iMovie. I think it is helpful for us.
