What is the difference between DVD+R/DVD-R?

Why my DVD player didn't play my DVD+R? We still can see and found millions of different questions in forums or twitters about the DVD+R and DVD-R, today, we'll give some hints in these questions:

First, we'll start from the differences between DVD-R and DVD+R :

DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVDr stands for DVD Recordable DVD-R was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players. DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 93% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs. DVD-R was first released in 1997 by Pioneer, and proved by DVD Forum, and 5 years later, year 2002, DVD+R released by DVD+RW Alliance as the compete formats. DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 89% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs. Although, some say a DVD+R disc is more accurate in the media burning process, to the customers like us, they are almost the same. They're both supported by most DVD players and their storage is all 4.7 GB or 4.38 GB.

Second, why my DVD player only plays DVD-R?

The problem is related to the age of your DVD player and what brand of your DVD player is. As I mentioned before, both formats are supported by most of the DVD players now, like Sony, LG, Philips etc. almost the big brands you can find in the market, but for those DVD player with cheap and even unbranded DVD player. And as we know, the DVD+R is released in the year 2002, so if your DVD player is bought before or within the year 2002, it's possible that you can't paly the format.

And for the third but not last question: how to burn the DVD-R to DVD+R copy on Mac OS X:

As the dual-formats record devices appeared in the year 2007, you will only need a Mac DVD Copy to copy the DVD. These applications support both Discs, I'm personally using Mac system (windows should be the same), there is build-in software ‘Disk utility' can burn the iso or DVD files to the Disk, but if you want to burn the DVD disc to a blank Disc, you have to have the third party application. And it only takes 1 click and few steps to finish the whole copy process, just follow this cool guide : How to Burn DVD+R to DVD-R on Mac OS X?
