YouTube on Apple TV ReviewThis is a featured page

As usual with the Apple TV, there's not much to write. But that's a good thing.

In the Apple TV menu, there is a "settings" menu item. Click that and there is an "update" item. Next, you click "download now".

And that's that. The update downloads in the background, allowing you to use your Apple TV like you normally would. I'm watching The Daily Show right now, and the update is installing itself transparently.

...

When it's downloading, a message appears asking if I want to update now or later. I select now and the machine reboots.

When it loads back up, there is a YouTube option in the main menu.

mcqz Offensive Video on You Tube 0 Dec 18 2010, 8:53 AM EST by mcqz

This seems really weird to me. I know that there is a lot of R-rated material on YouTube, but the titles ususally give that away and if you go looking for it you're not going to be offended. However...

Last night I was showing smart dog tricks to the family using our new AppleTV. I selected YouTube and scrolled down to "Most Recent." There in the 1st slot, not quite big as life on our TV was a totally graphic image of a couple engaged in sex - not some R-rated image but clearly showing anatomical detail.

I'm not a prude (I don't think) and if I had encountered this on my own,I probably would have flagged it as inappropriate and moved on, but with family gathered around and dumbstruck, I quickly backed out trying to explain how something like this showed up. The answer of course is that I have no clue! I guessed that it would be removed and hadn't yet come to the attention of whoever censors that kind of upload. I scrolled through the Most Recent list this morning and it didn't seem to be there, though there were probably more than 240 uploads in the past 12 hours, so I can't be sure it has been removed.

Does anybody know if this kind of thing regularly pops up in "Most Recent" or was this a fluke? If it is common, we just won't select Most Recent and that should eliminate the issue.

Has anyone with a hacked box know if the update is like a factory restore and therefore disables all the hacks installed?
