As usual with the Apple TV, there's not much to write. But that's a good thing.
In the Apple TV menu, there is a "settings" menu item. Click that and there is an "update" item. Next, you click "download now".
And that's that. The update downloads in the background, allowing you to use your Apple TV like you normally would. I'm watching The Daily Show right now, and the update is installing itself transparently.

When it's downloading, a message appears asking if I want to update now or later. I select now and the machine reboots.
When it loads back up, there is a YouTube option in the main menu.
