Need help with Apple TV + WAN Network
Nov 29 2007, 1:11 PM EST Hi, this really more of a usability question, but I didn't know of a better way to contact you. My name is Justin Lee - I'm a video producer in Atlanta, Ga. I have an application that I would like to use several Apple TVs for, but I'm not sure how workable this project is. Any help or suggestions you might offer would be greatly appreciated. I have a client that has several hours of training videos that they would like to distribute to several of their stores (150+). They currently use DVDs for distribution, but they often update the videos and have to mail several supplemental DVDs each year to replace outdated ones, hence they would like to create a system that hosts one master library of files that can be synced to 150+ devices across the internet. The discussion started with using iPods, but I think Apple TVs might be a better solution. My thought is that I could host a master iTunes library on a server with a fixed IP address and have several Apple TV units sync to the remote library. The dilemma is how to make the master iTunes library discoverable by Apple TV units at remote locations. My understanding is that Apple TVs use Bonjour to discover iTunes libraries. Is it possible to make Bonjour work across the WAN? Apologies if I've posted to the wrong place, but I'd appreciate any input you may have. Thanks! RE: Need help with Apple TV + WAN Network
Feb 22 2008, 4:31 AM EST Well.. im ALSO experimenting w. Wide Area Bonjour...but I am at an earlys stage. So far I´ve only been able to advertise web pages. I dont think one is able to browse other domains..that is...maybe its possible to set up ONE(1) AppleTV and add a static record at your DNS which tells where it is. bur problems arises if you have several which are behind a firewall/router. A different approach could be to hack the AppleTvs to pull content from the master server... 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
