Can I control the apple tv from a mac?

We've just started using the apple tv as a music player. Works well, can be controlled from the two iPhones in our household.

But it would also be nice if I could control the music from a mac, e.g. start, stop, change volume, and such. Is there any way of doing this? Do you find this valuable?
