The missing link

My wife and I just bought our first home. We're hoping over the next few months to build a humble entertainment center that will bring all of our A/V entertainment together in a symphony of sight and sound (and smell until we get rid of the old carpet).

The one piece missing from our dream theater is that magical bridge between our TV and the large cache of music and video we have stored on our Mac Mini home server. Sure, I'm a big DIY sort of guy and I've tried out various solutions to bring my PC video to the big screen, but every attempt has ended in tears. Most people I know who built their own HTPC ended up abandoning it within a few months.

The Xbox360, Tivo, and Wii all attempt in various ways to serve your local network media to your television, but none of them succeeds like the Apple TV does. None come close when comparing formats, usability, interface, speed, and the utter silence of the sleek little Apple TV box.

In closing, I offer you this humble haiku:

My media weeps.
It longs to be enjoyed
With Apple TV.
